MSc/PhD Studentships in mathematics, UNAM, Mexic

PhD and Masters Studentships


A number of fully funded PhD and Masters studentships are available within the Joint Postgraduate Program inMathematical Science of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Campus Morelia, and the Michoacan University of San Nicolas of Hidalgo.

The PhD studentships are tenable for up to 3 years and have a stipend of 10,342 Mexican Pesos per month (816 US Dollars, equivalent to six Mexican minimum wages). The Masters studentships are tenable for up to 2 years and have a stipend of 7,757 Mexican Pesos per month (612 US Dollars, equivalent to four and a half Mexican minimum wages). Health coverage will be provided by the Mexican social security system.

Applicants should have or expect to gain a university degree in Mathematics or related discipline with an average of 8 or higher on a 10 point scale. Non-Spanish speakers are expected to become proficient in Spanish within two years.

The preferred starting date is 16th August 2010. Deadline for applications is 21st May 2010. The entrance exam is scheduled for 5th June 2010. Foreign students are required to arrange for a faculty member to supervise the exam at their home institution.

A complete application includes a covering letter addressed to the Comité Académico del Posgrado en Matemáticas specifying contact details, CV, copies of university degrees, a copy of an identity document (passport, driving licence, etc), and contact details of two academic referees. Art. 1 - Announcement purposes and general conditions

1. This announcement regulates the admission requirements to the research doctoral schools of Ca' Foscari University of Venice for the 26th cycle (2010/11 academic year)
2. Failure to comply with the regulations of this announcement will result in the exclusion from the examination.
3. The submission of the application, as set forth in article 5, entails acceptance of the regulations of this announcement by the candidate.
4. The attachments are integral part of the herewith mentioned call.
5. All the communications to the candidates that concern the present call will be sent per email by the University. For this purpose, the University will use the email provided by the candidate when he/she registers online (art. 5, subsection 2).

2. The admission to the doctoral courses is subject to a competitive examination based either on the
assessment of both qualifications and examinations, or simply on the assessment of qualifications.
3. For each of the courses listed above in paragraph 1, please refer to the attached sheets (Attachment "A"),
which are an integral part of this announcement for what concerns research topics, available places, admission
requirements, as well as assessment criteria and procedures to draw up the lists of the qualified students.

4. The candidates are required to come to the examinations (if expected) on the day and at the time indicated
in Attachment "A" with a valid ID card.
5. Without prejudice to the terms for the application submission, the number of available places may be increased
through future provisions of funds granted by public research bodies or by private qualified corporations.
6. Courses will start in the month of September 2010. The length of the doctoral course is three years.
